John Blanco
Artist Statement
My works are challenging
due to their slow evolution, absurd presence, and unseen quality. Resembling
elements of Conceptual Art, Performance, and Sculpture, I exhibit the
influences of Social Activism, Printed Matter, Natural Sciences and Technology.
At the point of overlap among multiple categories, a dynamic voice is invented.
I create new contemplative experiences that often use discarded materials. By
collecting the aesthetic substrate, this process permits my exploration of a
re-imagined thing. An objects meaning is researched, observed, practiced,
ignored, and momentarily isolated from its prescribed context, in order to be
inserted in a new. I am then a composer of potentials.
Artist
Biography
I am a part
of the new creative class. I am recognized as an Activist, Dancer, Educator,
Gardener, Imagination Officer, and Social Entrepreneur. However defined, my
practices are described as whimsical, courageous, and authentic. I received my
BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005.
After leaving SFAI, I served as Artist Assistant for Clare Rojas and Barry
McGee, and as an Arts Teacher working inside San Francisco's Youth Guidance
Center with adjudicated youth. In late Spring 2008, I began a cross-country
cycling adventure, completing 2000 miles and later arrived in New York City to
conclude my summer 2008 Artist in Residence at Le Petit Versailles Community
Garden. Presently I live and work in Brooklyn, New York.
